After several attempts at getting myself fit in the local gym’s and paying a membership but not bothering to go because”it’s boring” or “I’m tired” and numerous other excuses, I decided to try boxing training, as my age is a factor it wasn’t possible to go to the local youth centres to train I also would of been out of place I wanted to be in more of a personal one to one environment when I heard about Elite it sounded ideal.
My late father used to box and always told me ‘‘you have to be fit to box.’’ I already knew about the fitness because as a physiotherapist and qualified fitness instructor (lapsed) I treat all types of people, and I know how to fit they are. People seem to think boxing is about trying to knock your opponent’s head off. But I’ve been training about four months now and nobody has tried to knock my head off it’s not the way to learn. The training is more about fitness, coordination, focus, determination and self discipline.
The coaching is superb at Elite Boxing, they tailor the coaching to suit your needs and fitness and if you don’t feel you can do something tell them and they will change the exercise to suit you. The exercise is so varied you just don’t get fed up. There is no pressure to actually box if you are there just to get fit, I have a lot of fun though it is hard work especially as I’m the wrong side of fifty five. When I started I was unfit and overweight, but my fitness is coming back and my weight is gradually coming down .If you are over forty years of age I would recommend having a check up at your doctors before undertaking any exercise program.
