TRX system or otherwise known as Suspension Training has been around for over 150 years but is now becoming very popular in combat sports such as boxing and M.M.A. Suspension Training is a type of bodyweight exercise which allows your body to train utilizing your own body weight. Kerry Kayes & Jamie Moore Seminar

In June 2010 Kerry Kayes owner of CNP Products and Jamie Moore UK distributor and former No 3 in the highly prestigous W.B.C rankings. came to Elite to conduct a seminar on nutrition, dieting and general healthy eating. The seminar lasted for two hours and our members who attended commented on how interesting the seminar had been giving them an insight into not only what we should be eating, but also WHY we should be eating, various nutrients and supplements.

Many members thought they had a good account of how to diet and what to eat but didnt realise certain things they was doing were detrimental to themselves such as their daily intake of protein. When informed that whilst in training/dieting they should be taking one gramme of protein per one pound in body weight each day so when losing weight you dont actually lose muscle!!

There was so much great advice throughout the afternoon it would be impossible to repeat everything mentioned, so members who attended the seminar gained a vast of knowledge from to experts in such sport science.

Joining Elite is one of the best decisions that I have made in a very long time and I would challenge anyone who joins not to feel the same.

As a female I have always thought that boxing was strictly a man’s sport, I was very wrong! It is a brilliantly skilled sport that is about focus, determination and coordination which are attributes that can be applied to all aspects of daily life.

I have been a member of nearly every gym in Bolton on and off for the last ten years and Elite is leagues ahead in terms of professionalism, motivation and results. The gym is unique to all other gyms because of its personal approach to fitness .

The staff are on personal terms with each and every member and are able to cater to each individuals requirements and ability. The staff are always keen to receive feedback and will adapt lessons depending upon the groups/individuals strengths and weaknesses. The sessions are always varied and well planned combining loads of boxing technique with cardio-vascular exercise. The instructors are really helpful and well informed but most of all are approachable. I have recently received both diet and fitness advice which has proved invaluable.

Since I joined Elite my fitness levels have increased dramatically ,I have more energy, I am a lot more toned and I have started to lose weight! I now attend the women’s class twice a week and have just increased from one member session a week to two sessions a week.

I genuinely can’t say enough good things about Elite Boxing, all I can say is do not be put off if you have never boxed before, I hadn’t until a few months ago and now I am hooked! The first lesson is free and so you really have nothing to lose…apart from a few excess pounds.

I`m 57 now and recently changed my working arrangements. I had always kept fairly fit and active but was looking for something more disciplined , more demanding and if possible tailored to my requirements…..I didnt want a big impersonal health club where I could join a large class or just push the machines.

I heard about Elite and made a visit…first thing is its a proper gym and the atmosphere is right , staff are friendly and professional and you are made welcome…if you`ve never boxed before ( like me ) its no problem , in fact it probably works better that way. The key thing for me though is that the training is built around me and what I want to get out of it. I get “one to one” but classes are never more than 6 .

I strongly recommend you visit the gym , have a look round and talk to the staff. I`ve been going for about 6 weeks now and I`m certainly fitter and my boxing technique is improving ( slowly !)

What is the main thing people remember about a boxing match? People always remember the knockouts and knockout artists like Nigel Benn. Any boxer can improve their punching power. You ask how? There are several ways:

Resistance training in the form of explosive movements such as the Olympic lifts and their derivatives will enhance performance. Exercises such as the clean, clean and jerk, split squats and such are vital for power enhancement. Now most people would say weight training makes you slow and muscle bound. Yes, if you train like a bodybuilder. Bodybuilder’s train for size, symmetry, definition and so on. Boxers lift to enhance their performance.

Research done in the old Soviet Union which was translated by Dr. Michael Yessis in 1983 says that there is definitely a synchronisation between leg, trunk and arm action which plays a major role in increasing punch power. That is the movement originates from the feet, then the trunk and finally the arm extension. Therefore, full body exercises are more effective than single muscle exercises for example squats instead of leg extensions.

The above table shows that knockout artists get most of their power from leg extension. Therefore, developing leg power is essential in increasing punch power. This can be achieved by resistance training with 30 to 60 % of your 1 repetition maximum, Plyometric (shock training such as jump squat using bodyweight and the use of bands and chains at the end of bars.

All the above train the nervous system which can improve the coordination between the legs, trunk and arms. It is worth remembering that the muscles are slaves of the brain. The above exercises should best done when you are fresh. To learn the above techniques find a suitably qualified person.

An opportunity to take part in the ‘24 hour Three Peaks Challenge’ came up at work and I needed to get fit fast.

I have been a member of several gyms in the past and found myself unmotivated and unchallenged after only a few months.

Having found Elite Boxing’s website, I decided to come and take a look around the gym.  I found the staff very welcoming and knowledgeable and so decided to take advantage of the free lesson they offer.

My first lesson was a one-on-one session and was a real motivator with superb tuition.  I was hooked straight away and decided to join there and then.

I now go twice a week.  I am currently into my sixth week of training and have already lost a stone in weight.  I feel fitter than I have in years and have started to learn a range of boxing skills.

The gym has a real buzz and the staff are really encouraging and are keen to get the best out of you.

I would highly recommend Elite Boxing as a fantastic way of getting fit, losing weight and learning a new skill.
