I joined Elite Boxing in Bolton about 5 months ago after I became concerned about my lack of physical activity and increasing weight.
I’ve always been a boxing fan and used to go to a boxing gym when I was younger.
However, Elite Boxing is nothing like any boxing gym I’ve encountered previously. For a start, Elite is a boxing and muay thai school, as opposed to a gym where you are often left to your own devices. At Elite you attend classes which are led by a coach from beginning to end.
Being a teacher myself I can appreciate quality tuition, and at Elite it is of the highest order. All the coaches are qualified and very knowledgeable, not only in their own disciplines of boxing or muay thai but also in sports science. What this means for the student is that the coach is able to not only explain how to do the activities clearly but why you are doing them and how they will help to build your strength, fitness and technique. From my own point of view, this has really helped me to understand the level of skill, fitness and strength required to box well and has given me the motivation to work hard to achieve that level.
The atmosphere at Elite is friendly and welcoming. I was especially struck that all the coaches were able to remember my name from only my second or third session. And this isn’t particular to me: every single member of the gym is referred to by their name. Considering the number of people who attend the gym this is no mean feat and must surely require considerable effort on the part of the coaches.
Elite is a world away from traditional gyms where you are fed a constant diet of bag work, press-ups and sit-ups. At Elite Boxing the coaches have a huge number of activities in their arsenal for developing fitness, strength and technique, and no two lessons are ever the same.
The classes are organised so that you train with others of a similar fitness and skill level to yourself. This means that the coaches are able to push every single member of each class to their limit.
So don’t be mistaken – at Elite you will have to work hard!
But the rewards for this are that you will become fitter, stronger and more confident in your physical abilities. I for one feel emphatically that these qualities are worth working hard to achieve, and you won’t find a better place to achieve them than at Elite.
