A hero Royal Marine, told he may never walk again after being blown up by a Taliban bomb, is taking part in two remarkable charity fundraisers – because he wants to give something back to the people that helped him.
Aaron Moon fractured his shoulder, pelvis, vertebra, hip, heel and legs when the vehicle he was in drove over an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan last year.
But the big-hearted 23-year-old, from Westhoughton, Bolton, was so determined to get back on his feet, that next week he will set off on a 125-mile bike ride to raise cash for Help for Heroes and breast cancer charities.
Aaron has been doing some of his training here at Elite Boxing its been great to train someone with so much enthusiasm after having such severe injuries.
And as if one fundraiser wasn’t enough, he is also fronting the National Golf Club Challenge which is looking for golfers up and down the country to take part in a £1m fundraising drive for Help for Heroes in July.
Aaron, who underwent months of rehabilitation at specialist forces’ centre Headley Court, in Surrey said: “I know first hand that the money Help for Heroes receives, and the support the public shows, helps the lads no end.
“I can only just walk and I can’t run but when doctors told me in February that I might be able to cycle, I wanted to do something for charity. A lot of people have been so supportive of me and I want to give something back”.
He added: “I was a keen golfer before getting injured and was put in contact with Stacey while doing rehab at Elite Boxing. He’s introduced me to some of the sport’s legends which has been a real morale boost and it’s proven a great rehab tool.”
