Boxing training for weight loss

Boxing training is perfect for anyone looking to improve there fitness or to lose weight you don’t have to be a fighter to come down to Elite and get fit or to get in shape.

The type of training that all fighters go through is beneficial for anyone interested in losing weight as is it interval type training which helps improves a fighters recovery in between rounds by getting the heart rate up and then bringing it back down.

Also the boxers are put through circuit training this type of training works most of your body muscles with various exercises including abdominal exercises, upper body exercises and leg exercises. All of these exercises are used to improve the strength, conditioning and power of the boxer.

At Elite Boxing we always change our sessions around and introduce new training methods and exercises which shocks the body’s muscles and keeps them adapting and becoming stronger and more conditioned.

With these two types of training and with the inclusion of weight training as long as the diet is good, the body will use up its fat stores and help tone your body. By adding lean muscle but getting rid of your body fat you will see a big change in your body’s shape. People who crash diet and for example cut out all there carbs will lose weight but also muscle so there body shape will stay the same although they have lost weight on the scales this isn’t body fat but muscle tissue.

If anyone is interested in coming down to Elite just to get fit and lose weight why not get in touch we are based in Bolton Greater Manchester and our results speak for themselves, check out our testimonials.

Hope this article has given you some helpful information but for some more in depth advice and help please contact us at Elite.

Nutrition advice for Boxing – Carbs

Posted on Friday, August 5th, 2011

oscar-de-la-hoya-picture

For anybody that is competing in boxing or anyone who is training in boxing, healthy eating or dieting is massively important as a way of giving you the fuel and energy to train.

Too many people try to lose weight by cutting carbohydrates out of their diet completely. This is a bad idea as it will effect how you train. Remember, carbohydrates are your fuel and if your body isn’t using them to train it will be using muscle.

A big mistake people make is that they think that if they don’t eat carbs their body will use up its fat stores. This is not true as the body will think its starving and hold onto the fat and use muscle instead of fat or carbs.

The result of this is that you might lose two stone but its not fat its muscle so your body shape doesn’t change your still the same shape just lighter and a lot weaker. At Elite we offer healthy eating plans as well as exercise plans so that your body has enough protein and carbohydrates so you use up your body fat and build lean muscle so while losing weight your body shape will also change.

The only types of carbs you should avoid is fast releasing carbs that contain sugar like fizzy drinks or sweets. The best types of carbs for you are slow releasing carbs like jacket potatoes and if possible brown pasta, brown rice and brown bread instead of the white variety. The only time you should really consume fast releasing carbs is after a training session this is to aid recovery one of the best types of recovery is cnp’s pro recover, the glucose in this recovery shake elevates your body’s blood sugar levels to start your recovery process.

Eating or not eating carbs is one of the main problems in people’s eating plans its important to choose the right kind of foods to eat before you train and after but you should experiment with what works for you.

You should always make sure you eat a healthy varied diet whether training or not and remember to stay hydrated with at least two litres of water each day.

I hope this helps, however this is just some basic information, if you need any more info why not book in for free lesson? with our varied training methods and our small private classes its like having a personal trainer at at a fraction of the price!

come and give us a try the best in private training in the Manchester area!!

Combintaion punching in boxing

Manny-Pacquiao-s-latest-Fight

Combination punching in boxing is massively important , it is also very important to throw your punches with variety. There are three types of punches in boxing – straight shots, hooks and uppercuts but there are endless combinations and ways of throwing them. A lot of boxers throw the same combinations over and over which can be become predictable and therefore becomes easy for your opponent or sparring partner to figure out.

For a great example of combination punching watch a fighter such as Joe Calzaghe or Manny pacquiao because of there hand speed plus the combinations of punches they throw is it hard to stop all the punches getting through even the tightest of defences. However you don’t have to be the best fighter in the world for combinations to work for you.

The way that combination punching works is that is you throw one punch it is easy to block but by throwing three or four you are that many more times likely to land the shots, also one shot will set somebody up or open up the target for another shot, for example the jab to the body sets up the right hand to the head.

A good way of throwing your combinations is by switching the attack by this I mean hitting the body and then the head or by hitting the head then the body.

some good basic combinations are -

jab to the head, straight right to the body then left hook to the head

jab, left hook then straight right to the head

double jab to the head straight right hand to the body

At Elite boxing we teach variety with all our combinations and practise throwing common combinations such as the jab right hand and left hook in reverse this gives the boxer a lot of variety and gives your opponent more problems.

“ive dropped a dress size in a matter of weeks”

215471_1940161459134_1095333160_32212554_2719595_n

After recently having my second child and feeling fat and frumpy! I decided to try out a few local gym’s, the ones I tried were either un-friendly ,un-challenging or a little boring and dull and I often found myself un-comfortably hanging around waiting my turn to use the equipment and with me being a busy mum of two with little spare time this really didn’t appeal to me! I knew i was determined and serious about getting fit and back in shape but I wanted maximum results in minimum time so after hearing about Elite boxing I thought I’d go along and try their ladies only classes. I was really nervous about walking into a boxing gym which is predominantly associated with males! but i needn’t have worried, all the girls were really friendly and made me feel welcome as did the instructors who are all really down to earth and not at all intimidating as I’d imagined. The class consists of ladies and girls of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness abilities and everyone works to their own ability but there’s lots of encouragement to dig deeper, push harder and improve your fitness level during each lesson. The gyms I’d visited previously left me feeling flat and like I’d wasted my time but walking out from my first lesson i knew i was hooked and came home on a high! The ladies only lessons focus mainly on improving fitness levels with the potential to burn over 500 calories during any 1hr lesson which in a conventional gym would have probably taken me more than 2 hours to achieve!. Technique is also taught and the instructors are really flexible and will happily adapt the lesson were possible to suit you’ve only got to ask! The thought of having to spar with another girl left me worried! But you don’t spar and it’s all non-contact (not unless that’s what you want to do of course!) the classes are so varied that you’ll never get bored. When I first started i honestly couldn’t do one set of sit-ups and now I can do them no problem! I’ve dropped a dress size in a matter of weeks and i now fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes, I’m much more toned and my dreaded baby belly has almost gone! Leaving me feeling much more confident. My fitness levels have improved massively too. So if like me you want maximum weightless results with a friendly team who take an interest and know what they’re talking about then get yourself down to Elite boxing and try something a bit different that actually works!!..
